I lost my hearing in an accident — five years later, I finally heard my husband's voice, and what he said prompted me to file for divorce.

Ça a marché, bien sûr. »

He glanced behind me, towards the glow of the fireplace, the cozy sofa, the blanket I always kept neatly folded. He wasn't looking for love. He was simply looking for refuge.
Michael didn't like me, that was obvious. He simply missed the comfort, the advantages, and the access.
"No, Michael," I said, holding the door with one hand. "We were never good together. You were just good at pretending."
His hand fell.
"I don't care about the house," he said quickly. "I don't care about the money. I only want you, Grace."

"You don't want me, Michael," I said, letting out a small laugh. "You want what I gave you. You want my family's fortune."
"I have nowhere to go," he continued.
